Dermatology is the medical specialism that studies the skin, its structure, and diseases.
The skin is the largest organ in the body and, obviously, the most visible. Although many diseases of this organ are isolated, some of them are the external manifestation of internal illnesses and therefore dermatologists have knowledge of different areas of medicine.
The Hospital Universitario La Moraleja Dermatology department is made up of specialists in medical/surgical dermatology and venereology, with broad experience in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin and its adnexa (hair and nails), as well as in the care for and damage-prevention of healthy skin, using advanced techniques within the context of cosmetic dermatology for its adequate maintenance and skin resurfacing.
The department participates actively in the dermatological scientific community, continuously attending and participating in meetings, symposiums and national and international conferences, through projects, oral communications and posters, as well as publications in national and international journals.
We continuously perform research work in different areas of cosmetic and therapeutic dermatology and we are a pioneering hospital, having established the dermatological ultrasound in our ry, and a national reference centre as a dermatological ultrasound training department, with courses for dermatologists and dermatology residents. We collaborate closely with the teaching department, welcoming internal medicine students and residents in paediatrics in our hospital consultations to help them complete their training in paediatric dermatology.
The services we perform the diagnosis and treatment of skin, hair, scalp and nail diseases; treatment with cryotherapy; outpatient dermatological surgery; and the monitoring of dermatological lesions with digital photography. Additionally, we perform treatment with autologous blood-derived growth factors for skin ulcers, facial rejuvenation and alopecias; digital dermatoscopy (early diagnosis, monitoring of pigmented lesions); photodynamic therapy (treatment of pre-cancer and skin cancer, acne, inflammatory processes and photo-aging); and skin ultrasound.
