As part of our commitment to providing our patients with the latest technological advancements to better protect their health, La Moraleja University Hospital, which performs over 100 knee prosthesis surgeries annually, has introduced Rosa robotic technology. This technology significantly improves patients' functional capacity by offering enhanced surgical precision, notably reducing intraoperative complications, and shortening recovery time.
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) surgeries are common procedures. However, only about 85% of patients are satisfied with their outcome, indicating there is room to further alleviate pain and for a considerable proportion of patients. Robotic surgery enables a more precise, accurate, and, most importantly, personalized process, tailored to the unique needs of each patient. Prostheses placed through robotic surgery ensure greater accuracy in bone cuts and alignment, leading to improved mobility and faster recovery compared to conventional methods.
Knee prosthesis surgery at La Moraleja University Hospital is now available for all patients with knee osteoarthritis requiring a prosthesis. During the consultation, the orthopedic surgeon explains the robotic surgery procedure to the patient. Unlike conventional methods, robotic surgery with Rosa® technology provides better outcomes thanks to more precise cuts and quicker recovery. During the consultation, an X-ray is ordered, the patient's preoperative assessment is scheduled, and a surgery date is set.
Prior to the surgery, the medical team carries out preoperative planning. This new robotic knee surgery system integrates advanced sensors and a next-generation navigation system to determine the optimal placement of the prosthesis for each patient, based on data obtained from the patient's preoperative X-ray.
“These are highly complex surgeries the surgeon’s skill and experience are crucial. The precision provided by the robot allows us to perform exactly what is needed for each patient, in a fully personalized manner,” says the orthopedic surgery team at La Moraleja University Hospital.
After the surgery, the patient will remain under medical supervision for several days until discharged, and rehabilitation will either the same day or the following day.
